The Art of Leadership and Mentoring Students
Graduate school, in collaboration with The Office of Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and The Center for Promotion of Learning and Teaching would like to invite Technion academic staff members to take part in a workshop focusing of Leadership and Mentoring skills.
Advising students is a pivotal responsibility of a Principal Investigator (PI). This role encompasses various crucial tasks, including mentoring students and postdocs, fostering an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment, and nurturing both personal and professional development. The relationship between an advisor and team members is uniquely transformative, evolving over several years and across a multitude of situations, demanding a sensitive and informed approach. Despite its profound impact on scientists’ careers, there is currently no formal training provided to PIs for mastering this role.
It is for these reasons that we have decided to offer this workshop as an opportunity to explore the art of effective communication with individuals from diverse backgrounds. During the workshop, we will focus on refining skills such as active listening, coaching group members to establish trust, motivation techniques, and efficient project progress tracking. Becoming a proficient adviser is a pivotal aspect of achieving professional success, and the rewards are truly fulfilling.
We firmly believe that these skills, essential in addressing contemporary challenges in the professional world, can be learned and honed. Our primary objective is to empower participants to adeptly navigate the challenges associated with mentoring students and fulfill their advisory roles.
The next workshop is scheduled for Thursday, February 1st, between the hours of 9:00 to 16:00. The location will be announced later on.
Participation in this workshop is free of charge, but due to the interactive nature of the event, we have limited the number of participants to 15 for an optimal learning experience. We warmly welcome Technion Faculty members who have been mentoring graduate students for two years or more to register using the form below.
