Emergency Teaching Toolkit

The first semester of 2024 will open in the shadow of war, with all its complexities that it brings. The opening of the academic year is part of our coping with the situation as the teaching staff at a leading academic institution. The significant teaching experience accumulated at the Technion and the pursuit of excellence will help us create a model of quality education even during a crisis and lead to the students’ training. We, at the Center for Advancement of Learning and Teaching, believe that if we create a sense of stability for the students, organize the curriculum well, reflect the pedagogical considerations that guide us, teach clearly, and show empathy, we will successfully navigate through this challenging period. We invite you to contact us to think together, to consult, and to benefit from our pedagogical knowledge in order to prepare in advance for the upcoming semester.

The Center for Advancement of Learning and Teaching operates, in the spirit of the Technion’s vision, out of a commitment to promote excellence in teaching and research, aspiring to develop graduates with high capabilities, up-to-date skills, and groundbreaking thinking abilities. In recent years, the center has been engaged in implementing innovative teaching approaches, including a transition to active, independent, continuous, and learner-centered learning. This is done while integrating technological tools that enhance significant learning and evaluation processes.

In order to ensure the quality of teaching at the Technion, the Center for Advancement of Learning and Teaching develops a wide range of methodologies, tools, and infrastructures aimed at supporting and assisting the teaching staff on campus. The Center’s professional team accompanies the staff from the planning and course building stage, through teaching and learning during the semester, to the stage of the learning assessment, thus providing a comprehensive and supportive pedagogical and technological framework. We invite interested lecturers and teaching assistants to receive ongoing guidance, including pedagogical consultation, classroom observations (online and/or face-to-face), and personal feedback, while maintaining full discretion.

The Center holds seminars and workshops on various topics in accordance with changing needs. As part of these meetings, participants can hear lectures by experts and specialists in pedagogy, about technological services in teaching and learning, ways to promote meaningful learning among students, increasing motivation for learning, and more. Additionally, dedicated meetings are held for discussions and open dialogue on professional issues and challenges in the context of teaching and learning.

The Center provides a filming studio classroom, where lessons can be recorded in the presence of students with the assistance of the Center’s video experts. Furthermore, we have two cutting-edge recording studios outfitted with top-tier equipment for professional filming and editing at the highest production level. Also, the Center provides lecturers with self-filming studios using “Lightboard” technology, allowing Technion staff to easily and conveniently self-record asynchronous teaching content. A state-of-the-art multimedia classroom has been established in the Center, designed for active learning in a plenary or small group setting, with a unique, dedicated technological setup that provides a convenient infrastructure for this type of learning. The Center actively seeks out, evaluates, and integrates digital tools that foster meaningful learning experiences and is open to examining unique requests and suggestions for exploring and adopting innovative educational tools and technologies.

We invite you to meet the Center’s team and have an open discussion on any pedagogical topic and more…
