Updating the teaching quality assessment model at the Technion
The teaching quality assessment project at the Technion is designed to assist in formulating an institutional policy that allows monitoring, examination and updating of the quality of teaching.
The changes in teaching and learning in higher education, and the emerging changing needs, emphasized the necessity to adopt changes in the teaching evaluation process.
The teaching quality assessment project at the Technion began with the recognition of the continuous need to promote the quality of teaching. The discourse about the characteristics of teaching quality and issues concerning the use of assessment tools were discussed within committees and conferences with the intention of adjusting to the changes and challenges arising from the field. For example, in 2018, the Mishaal Committee, which was established by the Senior Executive vice President, submitted its recommendations.
As part of the project, issues, models and characteristics of the teaching evaluation processes at the Technion and higher education institutions in Israel and around the world were examined.
Among other things, the structure and method of administering the teaching quality surveys were examined, and recommendations were formulated for making changes to the questionnaires and questionnaires adapted to the teaching model in various courses were formulated
In addition, the integration of multidimensional evaluation was examined using a variety of methods and tools for teaching evaluation, and recommendations were formulated for their integration. Finally, as part of the effort to encourage excellence in teaching, criteria were formulated for outstanding teaching, for recognition and awards.
